Across Carlsbad Blvd. from the main entrance of the Hilton Garden Inn (near the junction of Palomar Airport Rd. and the San Diego Fwy.), Carlsbad, CA 92011
—————–Dave’s Beach Sloping——————— (RCGroups)
The slope works best with WSW wind. SW to W winds flyable.
Park ‘n’ fly slope which drops 50-60 feet to the beach below. Slope angle is roughly 45° and the face is heavily eroded, however downed plane recovery is relatively easy just about anywhere on the slope. The LZ is narrow and either paved or bare dirt but there is very little rotor. The slope extends for a long distance to the north so there is lots of room for people to fly by themselves.
Starting point: Northbound or southbound San Diego Freeway (I-5) in Carlsbad.
- Exit the 405 at Palomar Airport Rd. and turn towards the ocean.
- Continue over the railroad bridge and turn right at the Carlsbad Blvd. South exit.
- Follow the 180° ramp and look for the parking spaces on the right as soon as you merge with Carlsbad Blvd. If it doesn’t go missing there will also be a pole with a wind sock there.
